"Your Hometown Newspaper Since 1916" Volume 86, Number 22 Wednesday, June 4, 2003 Single Copy 50 USPS 522-300 Deputies serve warrant, bust lab ;! -:2 Heather Freret Editor/Publisher Stone County Enterprise tone County Sheriff Deputies recently arrest- ed a husband and wife on drug charges, according to Stone County Sheriff Mike Ballard. Ballard stated that on Sunday, May 25, 2003. at approximate- ly 8:00 p.m., Deputies arrived at 584 Clark Batson Road to serve a warrant on Stacy Smith. Smith was hospitalized after receiving burns to her right hand and leg as a result of a meth lab fire on April 6 at her mobile home. A warrant was issued for her arrest pending her release from the hospital. "As Deputies entered the house to serve the warrant they observed a paper plate with white powder on the bed," said Ballard. "A field test rev,aled the powder to be methamphet- amine. In addition to her previous charges, Mrs. Smith was arrested and charged with pos- session of controlled sub- stance, possession of precur- sors, unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, and pos- session of marijuana with intent to distribute. Also arrest- ed on the same charges was her [] Chase Brown was one of many children that have been visiting Blaylock Park since the school year ended. Circuit Clerk to send mail out Heather Freret Editor/Publisher Stone County Enterprise tone County Circuit Clerk Kenny Hatten will mail w)ter registration cards to everyone in the county during the first two weeks of Juoe. The cards will have wJter's name, voting precinct, plus the voter's House and Senate District, according to Hatten. "This mail out is a result of the recent redistricting," said Hatten. "The cards will let everyone know their district and voting precinct." Hatten also stated that there is nothing to fill out and nothing to return. He also stated that if someone doesn't receive a card or has a question to please call him at 601-928-5246 or stop by the Circuit Clerk's office tem- porarily located in the Stone County Justice Court Building. Wiggins welcomes new officer Heather Freret Editor/Publisher Stone County Enterprise iggins Police Officer James Pacheco recent- ly graduated with top honors as Distinguished Cadet, from the Southern Regional Public Safety Institute located on the lniversity of PACHECO Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast Campus. Graduation ceremonies were held Friday, May 23, 2003. Along with receiving top hon- ors, Pacheco was also awarded the Marksmanship Trophy. He has been employed with the Wiggins Police Department since November 2002. Wiggins Chief of Police Reid Lowe stated that he is proud to have him (Pacheco) as a member of the Wiggins Police Department, "We are looking forward to his maturity wiih the department."
