By dody O'Hara A much larger than expected crowd filled the center of Wiggins both Friday night and Saturday as the annual Pine Hill Festival expanded to two days. Crowds filled Blaylock Park for music and food Friday night as D.C. Lane, the Tomfooleries and Angela Easley entertained from the C-Spire stage. Scheduled to end at 2 p.m. Saturday, organizers let the fun carry on and expire of its own accord as crowds continued to shop with vendors and enjoy myriad choices of food and beverages. Stone County EconO'fnic Director Jay Paul Gumm called the festival an unqualified success. "It exceeded our wildest expectations and we couldn't be more pleased with the turnout," he said. Gumm placed crowd estimates at somewhere between 12,ooo and 4,ooo festival goers. An advance display of the Old Firehouse Museum drew a steady stream of visitors while Red Creek Classics filled more than a block with classic cars and bungee jumping and hamster ball attractions entertained youngsters. The only negative - if it could be considered such - was how festival organizers were going to top the event next year.
